Principles of Public Relations has been a class that I have greatly enjoyed taking this semester. I have learned many things that I have never learned before that will definitely come into play in the future. I am still undecided on my major, but this class made me realize that I would enjoy working with Public Relations one day. I really enjoyed Public Relations because every week you are required to blog. Blogging is like your modern day journals. You can write all of your perspectives and thoughts on topics that are intriguing to you.
The specific class that I am in requires you to write weekly posts, public relations examples, and to comment on your classmates posts. At the beginning of the semester, I really dreaded having to do this every week, but I was totally wrong. I found myself really interested in writing these and always wrote more that I was required to. If you are a person who loves to tell a story and can ramble on about anything, then this class would be a perfect fit for you.
If you are new to the blogging world, here are some tips that you should take into consideration while putting together your blogs:
- Don’t stress about it! When you are writing your blogs, don’t think too hard about it. What you are writing should come naturally to you.
- Ask questions. If you are ever confused on your blogs or the topic that you are blogging about, ask your professor. It’s important to make sure that you are doing your work right and not just guessing on it.
- Keep an open mind. Don’t feel like you are limited to blog about certain topics. Explore new topics and write your opinion about them. It is a lot of fun!
I hope that you enjoy blogging as much as I did! Remember to use those tips and you should be good to go! Happy blogging!
Do you like listening to the rain fall outside your window while you sleep? Some people find it to be very relaxing, and others find it to be very distracting from their sleep routine. I happen to be one of those people who are a huge fan of rain storms. Just last week, I was lying in bed and could not fall asleep for the life of me. All I was wishing for was a thunderstorm to happen right that second. I decided to go onto the app store to find an app that would help me fall asleep. I came across something called “Rain, Rain”. This app offered every single type of rain form that you could possibly think of. How much more perfect of an app could I have found for myself!? To name a few, this app offers sound effects such as thunderstorms, city rain, rain on a tent, forest rain, summer rain, windy storm, rain dripping, etc. One of my personal favorites is the classic thunderstorm sound effect. It has the perfect combination of thunder, lighting, and rain fall.
So if you are ever looking for something to relax you or make you fall asleep, I suggest downloading the “Rain, Rain” app. It is completely free and guarantees to come with great, soothing sound effects. Ever since I downloaded this, I have noticed myself using the “Rain, Rain” app every night. I set a timer for how long I want it to be playing, and it will automatically turn off without waking me up. It is amazing how many apps are out there, and even better, most of them are free. “Rain, Rain” is definitely one of my favorite apps that I have on my phone right now. Even if you don’t think you may like it, download it and give it a shot. I bet you won’t end up deleting it and you will love it just as much as I do.
Pretty Little Liars has been a huge hit since its first time hitting the big screens in 2010. Five girls, named Aria, Hanna, Spencer, Emily and Alison, were best friends their whole life. One night in the summer while having a sleepover, the girls woke up to realize that Alison was missing. In later months, her body was found in the basement of a home, and the mystery of Alison DiLaurentis was over. After the funeral of Alison took place, the four girls received a text message at the same time, reading “I’m still here bitches, and I know everything – A”. A is out to ruin these girls lives and reveal all of their secrets. Each and every one of them have a secret that could ruin their lives, and Alison will always have that blackmail on them. If they become close to figuring out who “A” is, something always seems to go wrong, and they always end up back at square one.
This show has been an ongoing mystery to see if Alison is still alive, or if someone is taking her identity and sending messages off of a blocked number. Alison has always been the leader of her group and never really had the nicest of attitudes, so these cruel messages really made Alison’s friends believe that it could be her. So who is it? Could it really be Alison? But I thought she was dead? Who is in her grave? The mystery still continues!
The Pretty Little Liars cast is currently working on season 6. The viewers have received many clues throughout the seasons, leading up to the big “A” reveal.
Linda Stasi critiqued the first season of Pretty Little Liars and captured all of the very important details. I love how she added titles of other movies and shows to resemble the relationships between the two. It is very important to be able to critique things, both negatively and positively. In the Public Relations world, many people critique the way that companies advertise and promote their products. Critiquing things allows for companies to learn from their mistakes and succeed in their works.
“Critique like no one is watching – A”
Have you ever had a fear of being at the top of a roller coaster and then all of a sudden, the roller coaster stops, and you are stranded at the top? Well this is exactly what happened in Coney Island, New York.
On opening day at the amusement park, the first 100 people who entered were guaranteed a free ride on the Cyclone, an 88-year- old roller coaster. After the opening ceremony, the Cyclone was loaded with people, and ready for its first ride of the season. At about 11:45a.m., the incident occurred. The cars were bought to a halt near the 85-foot summit, and all passengers were stranded at the top.
Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident. The riders were all escorted down safely by park personnel. They were offered another free ride once the Cyclone was back up and running. Some chose not to accept the free ride, but others jumped right on the offer. What a scary situation to be in!
I bet you all could remember the days leading up to getting your driver’s license. Once that day finally came, it was like receiving a plastic card that read “freedom” on it. You could now drive around for endless hours and get away from reality while listening to music, and driving aimlessly until it was time to come home. Yes, having a curfew was still a thing at the age of 16. Not many new drivers realize that the cause of death for people age 16-19 is caused from incidents caused from driving. Teens are four times more likely to crash their vehicle while talking or texting on the phone. The US Department of Transportation is trying to come up with some ways for teens to be safe while controlling a vehicle.
Just last week, GM announced its first car that can monitor teen drivers and limit things that they are allowed to do in the car. The 2016 Chevy Malibu will have a key feature that will identify that a teen is behind the wheel. The system will mute the radio and make sure that all seat belts are buckled before the car is put into drive. Parents of the drivers will also be able to view how their child is driving by using the new infotainment system. The idea of this will be like a “report card” and discuss the drivers overall performance while operating the vehicle.
AT&T is now offering a DriveMode app works with the new iOS iPhone update. This app will automatically turn on when the moving vehicle is at 15 or 20mph. It will silence your text messages, and send a message to those who are trying to get ahold of you saying that you are too busy driving to respond. Once you turn DriveMode off, all of your texts will be able to view. If you are not an iPhone user, then other apps that are very similar are offered for which ever type of phone service that you use.
Another very similar app this is available for all phones is Canary. This app will inform parents when their child is breaking the rules of the road. It will send an email the moment your teen unlocks their phone while driving, exceeds the speed limit or leaves a designated geographic area. One of the most important things to do is make sure that you are sending your child to a good driving school.
You should never focus on the cost of any of these safety features. A car is an item that can be replaced, but your child is something that cannot.
While scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, I came across a very interesting video that grabbed my attention. This past Valentines Day, a campaign called “Love Has No Labels” decided to show the public what they are all about. A large black screen was set up in the middle of town where people gathered around to see what was going on. Skeleton figures appeared on the screen, and movements such as dancing, kissing, and hugging took place behind the screen. When the figures emerged from the sides of the screen and showed their faces, the audience was shocked.
“Love Has No Labels” is a campaign that shows that everyone should love one another, and no judgments or stereotypes should be made. The video shows friends and couples who are gay, interracial, have disabilities, and are different ages and religions from one another. The truth is that we’re all meant to love one another, not judge one another. Everyone is quick to cast judgments on people based on the color of their skin, their age, their physical abilities, etc.,but love overcomes all of that. Love doesn’t know prejudice. Love conquers all. When you take away the idea of judging a book by its cover, it becomes much easier to accept people for who they truly are.
